MY PURPOSE:
I CREATE MEMORABLE CULTURE & ART-DRIVEN NARRATIVE EXPERIENCES FOR FORWARD THINKING BUSINESSES.
I CREATE IMAGES & EXPERIENCES PEOPLE REMEMBER.
For more than 25 years, I’ve been creating work at the intersection of branding, design, technology, film and culture. I’ve led creative teams, shaped global brands and developed campaigns, immersive experiences and AI-driven visual worlds for some of the world’s boldest clients. My work spans disciplines — connecting strategy, storytelling, and technology to craft meaningful, culture-driven outcomes.
My creative personality was shaped in the digital artistic design boutique scene, advertising agencies and global consulting firms, where I learned to apply my skills interdisciplinarily. My creative path runs from boutique design studios to global consultancies: from BBDO Interactive and Razorfish to Hi-ReS! London, Philipp und Keuntje, ACNE, Deloitte Digital, and most recently, Artificial Rome. Along the way, I founded the creative collective blackbeltmonkey and led immersive projects for many automotive, fashion and luxury brands.
Throughout that journey, one question has stayed with me. Why do some ideas become part of culture while others disappear almost instantly?
The answer was never found in communication alone. It emerged from studying cinema, contemporary art, architecture, psychology, neuroscience and popular culture. The more I explored these disciplines, the clearer one pattern became. The ideas that stay with us don’t simply communicate a message. They create experiences, and those experiences leave behind images that become impossible to forget.
That belief shapes the way I work today.
I begin by identifying where a brand can become genuinely relevant through the intersection of purpose, human behaviour, culture and technology. From there, I develop narrative experiences that move beyond communication and create emotional engagement. The final ambition is always the same: to create visual memories that people continue to recognise, remember and associate with the brand long after the campaign has ended.
My work has always been driven by curiosity rather than categories. I enjoy moving between strategy and craft, consulting and creation, AI and traditional design, commercial projects and artistic practice. Each discipline informs the other. Art sharpens intuition. Film teaches narrative. Psychology explains behaviour. Technology expands creative possibilities. Together, they form the foundation of my creative methodology.
Today I work independently with brands, agencies and creative teams as a Creative Director, Creative Consultant and Visual Artist. Whether developing a global campaign, an immersive brand experience or an AI-driven visual language, my focus remains the same. Not simply creating attention, but creating work that people remember.
CULTURE & ART-DRIVEN NARRATIVE EXPERIENCES
My work doesn’t fit neatly in decks; it bleeds into people’s eyes, habits, and feeds. I craft images that stick, build experiences that move, and tell narratives that move brands. I believe in the force and power of the image (die Macht des Bildes) . Epic images are as powerful as ever, despite all the floods of information. Epic images still cut through the noise; they shape perception, emotion, and culture. Great narratives and strong visuals are inseparable and together they become pop culture. The power of the image plays just as big a role in politics as it does in pop culture, advertising or art. It incorporates artistic thinking and references from all conceivable sub & pop – cultural inputs to develop the unseen and as yet untold or re-mix it in a total new narrative experience.
The focus of my work lies in the triage of Design, Narrative Brand Experiences with a strong (pop)-cultural input and newest Technologies. I believe in the power of the image. It is the great narratives and images that stay with us. Epic images are as powerful as ever, despite all the floods of information. The power of the image plays just as big a role in politics as it does in pop culture, advertising or art.
My work draws from artistic thinking and subcultural currents, remixing what exists into something unseen – a new narrative experience that resonates and endures.
NARRATIVE EXPERIENCES IN THE AGE OF AI
I work with AI tools and advise clients on using AI not just for speed, but for real value, to unlock creativity, drive innovation, and create meaningful, lasting impact. I create in AI but also do AI Consultancy and advise clients on using AI not just for speed, but for real value — helping them unlock deeper creativity, drive innovation, and deliver meaningful, lasting results. The most valuable skill won’t be fast producing, it will be choosing what goes into production and the final result.
The future isn’t about producing faster – it’s about choosing better. Choosing the idea that matters. The detail that transforms. The story that resonates. Because AI without direction is just noise.
ENVISION. SHAPE. REALIZE. THE WAY I WORK.

ALL FORMS OF ART
Besides being a Creative I am a Visual Artist. In my creative tech inspired Art, I transform fragments of design, moodboards, styleframes and layouts I do into mostly analog Art Pieces. The pieces are mixed media between sketches, painting and using a drawing robot that is controlled with processing scripts and feeded with assets of my commercial work. Each piece is a unique work. I do exhibitions across europe. I believe in „Freiheit statt Freizeit“ (a quote by Joseph Beuys). That is why I see my studio and commercial work as one part of my story and my Art as the other part. Both are able to survive and co-influence side by side. Follow my work on Instagram @mikejohnotto
